When I was young, I had no problem learning Chinese, Taiwanese and some Japanese — it all came naturally.
At age 13, I began studying English. 11 years later, I passed all the relevant subject exams including TOFEL. However, I freaked out right on the spot and couldn't speak even one word in English when someone asked me, "What are you here for?" during my first visit to the US (although I kept all those words of the entire dictionary in my brain).
Sometimes, I reflected on my study:
Am I not smart enough to learn English? I don't know what's wrong with me. I am extremely upset. I wonder why all native speakers or local students studying in American schools overseas can speak English so well. Most of the people from my country and even those foreign ESL students in my class who passed TOFEL can't speak English that well...
Evidently, English became my most challenging subject to study in school, but it also gave me an opportunity to improve myself as well.
As a matter of fact, I even needed to take Beginner ESL 101 subject courses for consecutive semesters in BYU Provo, Utah for an entire year. During that period of time, I not only tried to overcome the English language barrier but also had a chance to examine the effectiveness of my study: Is my IQ an issue or something else with how I study? Or does my learning approach lead to problems? Is there any better way, shortcut or the best way to learn English?
Later on, I realized it has nothing to do with my IQ because of my remarkable performance as a math tutor in school, especially when he scored 100% on my — Calculus — subject final exam. It must be something with my method of learning English. Therefore, why would anyone need to follow my wrong footsteps — wasting so much time with useless effort and ineffective resources without being able to communicate in daily life?
It looks like when you passed the writing exam — for Swimming Class — and you still submerged yourself into water without being able to swim, and you finally drown yourself. After 20 years from what happened to me before, my niece who was in US high school encountered the same problem. She attended Spanish Language class and got all straight As for 4 semesters. When she was asked "How are you?" in Spanish, she just stood speechless and confused; she was unable to utter a single word. Finally, I discovered the easiest way to learn a new language while observing my then four-year-old daughter, Christina, who learned to speak chinese in less than four months, and my other nine-year-old niece, Mimi, who sang all the names of the states in less than 30 seconds in front of my face! I was puzzled; how did they do this?
Simple: they learned by singing!
That is (the reason) why English initiated his motivation for starting the Sing2Learn program. Nowadays, it has become his best companion and language learning tool which enables him to communicate with everyone. He hopes to describe how he learned 3 languages naturally so that others can also become friends with English, and they don't feel like it is pulling their legs.
Why? They failed to learn step-by-step.
The problem with the traditional method of learning is that the first three steps are skipped: listening, mimicking, and speaking. Instead, modern day foreign language classes skip directly to learning to read and write. The solution? Our founder — Anthony discovered that singing was a fun and engaging activity that incorporated the first three CRUCIAL steps to learning a foreign language. His inspiration came from his other niece when she sang “The 50 States” within 30 seconds in front of him. His own daughter, after learning 13 Chinese songs, could speak Chinese to him. How did they do it? They did it by singing. Wrapped in revelation, he decided to write a book called "The Best Way to Learn Foreign Languages." In 2010, this book, which introduces the Sing2Learn approach, was awarded the Mom's Choice Award winner in the self-improvement category.

Sing2Learn是怎麼開始的?
回首年幼歲月，我彷佛有著與生俱來的學習語言的能力. 漢語，台語，
日語對於我而言都是小菜一碟，輕而易舉之事.
十三歲的時候，我開始學習英語. 寒窗苦讀十一年以後，我通過了包括托福在內的所有和英文相關的考試. 然而，當我初到美國的時候，有人問我“ 你到這裡來幹什麼”？我是如此的緊張以至於啞口無言（儘管我的大腦像字典一樣儲藏了所有的回答）.
有時候，我會靜靜的反思. “ 難道是我太笨了，所以學不好英語嗎”？我找不到答案，異常沮喪. “為什麼所有的第一語言非英語的人以及當地的學生，只要在美國學校裡面學習，英文都可以講得那麼流利呢？但是大多數從我的祖國過來的人，甚至是那些通過了托福考試的人，英文都講得結結巴巴. 顯然，英文成為了我學習中的攔路虎，但是他同樣讓我有了提升自己的機會.
面對事實，我不得不去參加初級英語作為第二語言教學課程. 在猶他州的BYU大學，我連續學習了一整年. 在這一年裡，我不光嘗試著克服語言障礙，還去檢查我學習的有效性. 比如說，我的智商會又問題嗎？有其他的影響因素嗎？我的學習方法是否得體？英文學習有沒有更好的學習方法或者捷徑？
事後我發現我的智商沒有任何問題，因為作為一個數學輔導員，我的表現特別優秀. 特別是我在微積分期末測試上獲得了滿分的優異成績. 這樣看來，一定是我的學習方法欠佳.
因此，為什麼還要讓那麼多人步我後塵，浪費那麼多的時間和經歷以及一些無效的資源在生活當中根本用不到的東西上麼？這種悲劇彷若游泳： 當你通過了游泳課上的游泳測試，但你還是不能游泳，扎身水底的最終結果只是溺水而亡.
二十年後，同樣的情況再次發生在我的侄女身上. 她在高中的時候學習西班牙語. 四個學期當中每一次考試都拿A. 然而，當我用西班牙語問他“你好嗎” ? 的時候，她站在那兒茫然不知所措，一個字都擠不出來！
另外，我觀察(我)4歲(女兒)Christina學習過程中，發現她在4個月之內能說漢語。同時，我另乙位9歲姪女-Mini-能當我面在30秒內唱出美國所有的州名。我很困惑，她們如何在短時間內能有如此優越的表現﹖很簡單, 他們用唱歌來學習!
綜上所述就是我創辦“唱而學，學而樂”項目的初衷. 如今，他已經成為了我的最佳伴侶和學習工具. 有了他，我可以更好的和每一個人暢談無阻，正所謂心有靈犀一點通！

¿Cómo surge Sing2Learn?
Cuando yo era joven, no tuve ningún problema aprendiendo chino,
taiwanés y japonés, fue de forma natural.
A los 13 años, empecé a estudiar
Inglés. 11 años más tarde, pasé todos los exámenes pertinentes, incluidas el
TOFEL. Sin embargo, me sorprendí enormemente cuando no pude contestar
a quien me preguntó: "¿Qué haces aquí?" durante mi primera visita a
los EE.UU.
(Aunque yo guardaba todas estas palabras
del diccionario entero en mi cerebro.)
A veces, pensaba - "¿No soy lo suficientemente inteligente como para aprender Inglés? No sé qué me pasa. Estoy muy disgustado. ¿Por qué todos los hablantes nativos o estudiantes locales de las escuelas estadounidenses en el extranjero pueden hablar Inglés y yo no?
La mayoría de la gente de mi país e incluso los extranjeros estudiantes de ESL en mi clase que pasaron TOFEL no puede hablar Inglés. Evidentemente, el Inglés se convirtió en mi mayor
dificultad en la escuela, pero también me dio la oportunidad de mejorar y buscar alternativas.
Como consecuencia, tuve que tomar Principiantes ESL 101 y cursos para los semestres consecutivos en la Universidad Brigham Young en Provo, Utah durante todo un año. Durante ese período, no sólo traté de superar la barrera del idioma Inglés, también tuve la oportunidad de examinar la eficacia de mi estudio - ¿Será que mi enfoque de aprendizaje es incorrecto? ¿Hay alguna forma mejor de aprender Inglés?
Más tarde, me di cuenta de que el problema no era mi coeficiente intelectual ya que me he desarrollado notablemente como profesor de matemáticas en la escuela y obtuve el 100% en el examen final de cálculo. Entonces descubrí que, había algo mal con mi método de aprender Inglés.
Por lo tanto, ¿por qué alguien tiene que seguir mis pasos equivocados -
perder tanto tiempo con un esfuerzo inútil y recursos ineficaces sin ser capaz de comunicarse en la vida cotidiana? Este hecho se parece al ejemplo
de "aprobar el examen escrito - para la clase de Natación y estás sumergido en el agua sin saber nadar y finalmente ahogarse".
Después de 20 años de mi experiencia, mi sobrina en EE.UU. en la escuela secundaria se encontró con el mismo problema. Ella asistió a las clases de español y tiene un record perfecto durante 4 semestres. Cuando se le preguntó "¿Cómo estás" en español, se quedó sin habla y confundida, ella era incapaz de pronunciar una sola palabra. Finalmente, descubrí la manera más fácil
de aprender un nuevo idioma, mientras observaba a mi hija de cuatro años
de edad, Christina, que aprendió a hablar chino en menos de cuatro meses,
¡y mi otra sobrina de nueve años de edad, Mimi, que recitó los nombres de todos los estados en menos de 30 segundos! Yo estaba perplejo, ¿cómo hacer esto? Simple: aprendieron, ¡cantando!
Ésta es la razón por la que me sentí motivado para iniciar el programa Sing2Learn. Hoy en día, se ha convertido en mi mejor compañero y herramienta de aprendizaje de idiomas que me permite comunicarme
con todo el mundo.
